Trip Update The
August 2007 trip to Dominica's school was a small but mighty
group of four. Allana, who has led the team since 2004; Abbey
and Nicole, who have been on the last three trips; and Barb
who joined for first Blue House Effect trip.
Projects accomplished
during this trip include:
1. Painted all five
classrooms using fourteen gallons of enamel paint.
2. Purchased 28 small
chairs for the younger children's classrooms.
3. Purchased paint for the
wall outside the school.
4. Purchased paint/sealer
for the concrete storage area built during the Feb 2007
trip.
5. Purchased text books
for the classrooms.
6. Purchased school
uniforms for 51 children. An adventure in of it self.
7. Purchased black school
shoes for 25 children.
8. Purchased socks,
underwear and belts for uniform pants for 25 children.
9. Purchased material for
14 girls to make their own skirts.
10. Purchased materials
for a sidewalk to be built in front of the Life Skill area
and restroom.
11. Purchased a metal gate
to between the school and the park by the basketball court.
12. Purchased 10
fluorescent light bulbs and 3 security lights outside the
Life Skill area.
13. Purchased beach toys
for the younger children to play in the sand boxes made of
tires in the park area.
In addition to the
purchases, Barb worked with art therapy for those children
who have suffered the loss of one or both parents while
Nicole and Abbey taught English lessons in the mornings and
helped paint in the afternoons. |
